The building sector is responsible for 40% of global CO2 emissions and 60% of waste. It also represents 40% of Europe’s energy demand, 80% of it is generated by fossil fuels (Source: UN Environment Programme). Therefore a transition to a low-carbon building economy, with the ideal aim to Net Zero is crucial. This means, a building/ facility reduces its carbon emission by 45% - 50% by 2030, to no carbon emission at all before 2050.
The principle of sustainability has developed from a fashionable term to probably the most important guideline in planning and building practice. This involves far more than simply considering ecological issues or aspects of energy efficiency.
A variety of systems certify sustainable ways of building worldwide. In Europe, DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council), LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) are considered the most important certification systems. A certification is not only useful for constructors, but also for investors. A holistic approach is also becoming increasingly important for tenants.
An auditor (DGNB) or an AP (LEED, BREEAM) is required to receive a certification in accordance with these systems. We support you in selecting the appropriate Green Building certification system and provide you throughout the entire certification process with our expertise.
